About Me
- Richard Cleworth
- After spending my teenage years racing, i've changed discipline to freestyle as theres so much more to learn and a good way to always keep pushing myself forwards. I also work for club vass in the summer seasons, teaching anything from beginner to advanced.I then travel through the winter months to places such as Dahab and Brazil for some training! I always try and have a 12 month summer! However I always end up slightly skint so end up returning to the uk for a couple of months to earn for a while. Just before last christmas, I went to Dahab,Vassilki,Brazil, and Dahab again! So as i have just returned from Vassilki, where i was working there for 6 months, im now getting ready to head to Dahab to work for the winter months...Happy days!

The End of another summer at Club Vass.
From startup to pack down, april till october, another season at Club Vass has been completed.
Plenty of partying, windsurfing, teaching, board repair and video making completed.
This season we had Jay Haysey, Globalshots as full time resident photographer so throughout the season He's taken some epic shots as well as making some comedy video's.
Here's some of my favourite photos from the season taken by Jay also a rap video feat, myself and colin 'whippy' Dixon as snoop dog and dr dre.
Plan now is to windsurf in the UK, hopefully lots of sessions before it becomes too cold.

DAY 2
So day 2 here at milos and the wind kicked in for 30 minutes, so i got my het done as it the 2nd heat of the day, had a good time on port, flaka, shaka, carna brava and a double flaka. spock 540 on starboard, then flamed a eslider by digging the nose in too hard then tried to finish the heat with a funnel but ran out of time. knocked out but all being we'll get all the single done and hopefully a double elimination tomorrow if the wind fills in and stays!
DAY 2
So its day 2 and the wind is looking much better than yesterday, nice and hot with a steady onshore slowly building. All being well we should get some heats done and I'll post again this evening!
Milos Efpt DAY
DAY 1
Day one at the Milos Beach Resort, Lefkada, Greece was a day off for everybody. In the morning hours race director Tom Hartmann introduced a fleet of 21 riders in the sailing procedure for the first event of the European Freestyle Pro Tour 2011. The sail storage hosted a come-together for a good mix of riders. Fresh face Erik Hakman (Starboard/ Gaastra) talked about his new love –powered-up air Flakas– Mattia Fabrizi (Fanatic/North Sails) explained the advantages of his new boom and German riders Tilo Eber (JP/NeilPryde) and Adrian Beholz reported about their new freestyle movement called „German Freestyle Battle“. Many Riders sweetened their stay with a Greek iced coffee from the Milos Beach Bar and listened to beats from the Red Bull soundwagon.
At about 5pm local time the sky darkened and brought a few gusts to the heat area. A small part of riders used this chance to pump in some sliding moves close to the rocky seaside. The first possible start was postponed several times. But, finally at 7pm race director Tom Hartmann called it a day. However, the action delivered by Yegor Popretinskiy (JP/NeilPryde), Mattia Fabrizi (Fanatic/North Sails), Adam Gavriel (Naish/Naish) Niklas Strahlen (RRD/Simmer Style) and Pantelis Pap gave an inspiring outlook for tomorrow, the second day of the Milos Beach Lefkada Open. The notice board says Skippers Meeting at noon and first possible start at 1pm.

So I've been back in the uk for a few weeks now and its been alot of fun! even managed to get a good amount of windsurfing in the uk done! whoop!
On the weekend of the 23 and the 24th I went down to hayling island for the fist event of the season for the freestyle! however we ended up with no wind but still had a great event with Trevor Funnel running some light wind freestyle comps and also ran a freestyle tow in!
(Max Rowe Pictured)
Whilst on the beach dave white decided to get some shots with the ladies in to! ofcourse he wanted to have us all looking like pervs in the background!
On the saturday night was a good opportunity to have a bbq seen as there were so many people from vass and the uk freestyle scene!
and after a few more beers we managed to to have a itrip rave were we gotabout 5 vans tuned into the same ipod!
The hungover morning after I woke up to the sound of Max rowe laughing to bringing down very fast kite to knock over ali much to our amusement!
The following day a few of headed over to the wakeboard tow park at hove lagoon,
http://www.hovelagoon.co.uk/
Were they kindly let us have a go on it with a windsurf kit and it worked really well! I managed to get a funnel on my first run, got a little cocky and tried to ponch as jamie said, being the flat water ponch perfectionist that I am! Took the nose of his board of! stupid Ric!
So i spent the next day repairing it getting it ready for him to take it to the PWA event witch was two days later hense why the blog update is a little late!
Sorry Jamie !
Brought him some beers to to make up for it as well as obviously having vasscoast customs treatment.
working on the board,
And then putting in the hours at night...,
The finished result!
Photo's of the hove tow in and maybe even a video yet to come! whoop whoop !

SA Cape Town ! !
Cape Town, What a Place! Beautiful scenery, amazing property, and lets not forget the massive waves and strong winds! Including the famous table mountain to look at every morning.
It's my first time to Cape Town and Its everything people had mentioned to me and more, money well spent!
Where we live and where all the windsurfing/surfing happens Is only a 30 Minute drive from the Airport.
Whilst driving from the airport to table view where we live, we saw the townships which is mostly tin shacks where the poorer locals live. Once we got closer to the sea front the property is huge and I would say for the rich only!
Our house is sick! Big Thanks to Profitt for sorting it out! It has 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms! 2 kitchens! bbq area, double electric Garage full of kit and surf boards, Garden, Big Pimping !!
Being a freestyler this is my first wave trip! I wasn't sure what to expect. There Is a Lake down the road which is good for keeping up the freestyle, so I would say a normal windy day here would be a freestyle session on the lake then to a wave spot sometimes before lunch with another wave session in the afternoon.
Some days we get no wind but there is normally a good swell so there is always surfing to be done.
I wasn't sure How I was going to get on with wave sailing but I love it a lot! Even though I would say I'm pretty much a Beginner having only ever been to Rhosneiger which is more jumping and swell, and one time at Gwithian. There is always a huge rush when turning on a wave knowing it might crush you and your kit.
One of the hardest things for me at first was finding a decent piece of swell on the way out to gybe on to ride back in, sounds easy, not when there's 30 knots of wind chop and other windsurfers everywhere to look out for.
Then came timing on the wave, when to turn, and how hard to turn. Ariel opportunities? Still not got this sorted yet think it probably take's years to get this right! Getting it wrong mostly ends in holding your breath and praying for your mast to come up still in one piece!
Any way enough rambling, this place is sick! If anyone is thinking of going in the future then do it! I've got a funny feeling I'll be back here next winter!

dahab gets onshore!
Well I know when onshore winds arrive in most places its pretty standard but when the wind blows in one direction for 99% of a year its a very nice treat to get varied conditions such as onshore!
The onshore kicked up some waves as its quite open water in Dahab. Been a flat beach it had a hard time, most sun beds were washed around and the tide came right up and the waves pushed the water into our bar area and seating area!
Even with the damage on land it still left nice windsurfing conditions for the advanced customers and the instructor's!
Here's a video of me in the onshore plus it has some clips of the damage on the centre!
